Understanding the Private Pilates Experience at Mae We Move
Whether you are new to the reformer or a seasoned practitioner, I want your experience at Mae We Move to be seamless from the moment you arrive. Below, you will find details regarding Pilates in general, the studio setting, and what to bring to your duet or private sessions. I look forward to moving with you.
Pilates is a movement system created by Joseph Pilates that was designed to build strength, mobility and awareness in the body through controlled, intentional exercises. Pilates emphasizes alignment, breath, and precision.
The goal is to create a body that feels strong, supported, and capable in everyday life. Pilates has exercises that are performed on the mat or on a piece of Pilates apparatus such as the reformer, chair, tower, cadillac or ladder barrel.
Pilates meets you where you are at and evolves with you. Whether you’re recovering from injury, building strength, improving posture, or simply wanting to feel more connected to your body, Pilates offers a thoughtful and effective approach.
It strengthens deep stabilizing muscles, supports joint health, improves mobility, and enhances body awareness—helping you move with more ease, efficiency, and confidence.
Unlike traditional weights that rely on gravity, Pilates equipment uses spring resistance, which provides both assistance and challenge throughout the full range of motion.
Springs create a unique, dynamic resistance that requires control of both the effort and the return. This encourages balanced muscle development, joint stability, and a deeper connection to how your body moves.
- Increased flexibility and mobility
- Better posture and alignment
- Enhanced core strength
- Injury prevention and rehabilitation support
- Greater body awareness and mind-body connection
Great! You’re going to love it!
Sessions are tailored to your experience level, needs and goals. Whether you’re brand new to movement or otherwise, you’ll be guided through each exercise with clear instructions and support.
There’s no expectation to “know what you’re doing”… just a willingness to learn and show up.
Consistency is key.
For noticeable progress, 2–3 sessions per week is ideal. That said, once a week or getting a session in whenever you are able to can create meaningful change especially when you take what you learn and incorporate that into Pilates home workouts.
The goal isn’t to do more, it’s to do it well and to build a practice that feels sustainable for your life.
